Alvin Ailey dancers talk about Nicky Da B and New Orleans bounce

March 18, 2012

The folks at Vice and Noisey stopped by the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre, the modern dance troupe founded by African-American dance pioneers in the Civil Rights Era, to discuss a novel style of dance and music called “New Orleans bounce”. Specifically, on the example of “Release Yourself”, an interpretation by Major Lazer’s Diplo and Nicky Da B. If you never saw someone try to integrate pliés and pointes into “booty shake”, this video will be enlightening.

For reference, the proper technique is demonstrated in the track’s video, after the jump.
