Hieroglyphics relive national feature on BET’s Video LP

​It was 20 years ago that the Hieroglyphics, Oakland’s quintessential underground hip-hop crew, made it biggest national impact with the release of Souls of Mischief’s ‘93 ‘til Infinity, a song and album that’s in the canon of hip-hop classics. So to mark the anniversary, what better time than to relive the moment?

​It was 20 years ago that the Hieroglyphics, Oakland’s quintessential underground hip-hop crew, made it biggest national impact with the release of Souls of Mischief’s ‘93 ‘til Infinity, a song and album that’s in the canon of hip-hop classics. So to mark the anniversary, what better time than to relive the moment? Footage from Hiero’s feature performance on BET’s Video LP showed up in Hieroglyphics Imperium’s YouTube channel, and it’s a real gem—from the Soul’s performance of “‘93”, their first and biggest song, Del’s preoccupation with his TurboGrafx video games (leading to motherly scolding from the show’s hostess, Madeline Woods), and Casual, who looks and sounds exactly the same then as he does now.
