Rob Swift readies Roc Raida tribute CD

March 6, 2012

It’s been two years since Anthony Williams, better known as Grand Master Roc Raida of the turntablist crew the X-Ecutioners, died suddenly after suffering a freak accident while practicing martial arts. The DMC Hall of Famer, who incorporated a visual flair with his various juggles and routines, left behind a rich legacy among DJs and enthusiasts, and fellow X-Ecutioner Rob Swift has taken the charge to compile the Roc Raida’s most memorable tracks and collaborations. The Roc for Raida CD is 16 tracks of his collaborations and routines (some performed by himself, some by others posthumously). The CD includes his collaborations with Big L, the Jungle Brothers, Large Professor, DJ Premier, and Dilated Peoples. Total Eclipse, Mista Sinista, and DJ Precision also recreate some of his famous routines he used to become multiple-time DMC and ITF champion, including winning the the 1995 DMC World Championships.

The trailer for the project is above, check out a clip of his stuff after the jump.

The CD set will be released March 20. Proceeds of the album will benefit Roc Raida’s family and survivors.
