Rock The Bells 2013 lineup announced, includes ODB and Eazy-E

May 14, 2013

Nope, that’s not a misprinted headline. Rock The Bells 2013, the tenth anniversary iteration of the annual touring hip-hop music festival, once again will reprise its two-day format this summer in Greater Los Angeles Area on September 7-8, the San Francisco Bay Area on September 14-15, and New Jersey on October 4-5, with a packed line-up of hip-hop stars both emerging and legendary. A new stop on the tour will see the DMV being able to witness the festivities, as the tour will stop at the Festival Grounds at RFK Stadium before the Jersey shows on September 28-29.

As for the lineup, after last year’s youth movement, RTB will do a complete 180 and will feature, for the first time ever, dead people. Specifically, they will resurrect original Rock The Bells participant Ol’ Dirty Bastard and Compton hip-hop pioneer Eazy-E for special posthumous virtual performances, presumably in much the same way Tupac Shakur was resurrected as a hologram for Coachella in 2012. More details on that as we get them. As for the festival’s still-breathing acts, RTB will continue its tradition of reuniting groups together and feature Dilated People and Jurassic 5. Entire crews will be showcased together as well, with Black Hippy and Wu-Tang leading the way. Perhaps the biggest newcomer who has never been at RTB before will be Big K.R.I.T., with Kid Cudi, Talib Kweli, Tyler, the Creator, Earl Sweatshirt, Tech N9ne, and Common rounding out the big names. And in a departure, songstress Jhené Aiko will perform, becoming the rare singer that appears at a RTB.

Here’s the announced line-up so far, with a healthy expectation that more names will be added on later:

  • Big K.R.I.T
  • Black Hippy (Kendrick Lamar, ScHoolboy Q, Ab-Soul, and Jay Rock)
  • Bodega Bamz
  • Bone Thugs n’ Harmony
