Sundance Docs to feature NOLA Sissy Bounce, New York Alt-Rap, ATL Club Scenes
Kevin / January 10, 2013
The Sundance Channel and Nokia Music will be dropping a six-part music documentary series called “New American Noise”, which turns an eye to several new underground music scenes, including hip-hop trends in Atlanta, New Orleans, and New York, with work by a fleet of talented young directors. The first episode will focus on New Orleans and sissy bounce, directed by Abteen Bagheri, who cut the video for A$AP Rocky’s breakout track “Peso”. Another episode directed by Emily Kai Bok, who freaked Grimes’ viral visuals this year, will feature New York’s alt-rap scene with Angel Haze, Mykki Blanko and Kirk Knight. Atlanta’s feature by Tyrone Lebon will showcase the music that cut its teeth in the city’s notorious strip clubs before hitting the big time.
But back to the first episode on New Orleans and sissy bounce—it will feature Diplo, Big Freedia, Sissy Nobby and Nicky Da B, and make its debut January 16 on the Sundance Channel. Preview the episode with the video below, and check out their site for the trailer for the whole series.
